When it comes to removing your contact lenses from your eyes is by far the most important aspect of safe contact lens use. In this blog post we’re going to go through three processes that we teach to help people to be able to remove contact lenses safely from their eyes and if you are somebody who’s currently struggling with getting your lens out, then hopefully one of these methods will be a great alternative for you.
Firstly, the common method that we teach to get your lenses out involves making sure that you’ve got a firm grip of your top and your bottom eyelid and then reaching into your eye look slightly up, you then slide the contact lens down a little bit, then reach in with your thumb and your finger to pinch the lens out.
Often I find that this method isn’t to everybody’s liking, some people struggle with this method more than others, and it does take practise, and particularly with getting your eyelids and your lashes out of the way but as an alternative, here are two other suggestions.
The second method I’m going to suggest is particularly good for people with long fingernails, because it means that you do not have to kind of rely on pinching your fingers together. So what we’re going to attempt to do here is to slide the lens down as far as possible and allow the lens to buckle against the lower folds of the eyelids and then roll itself out so you can just easily pick it out, without blinking slide the lens down again if you need to and the secret here is to slide the lens down as far as you can following the curvature of the eyeball right down to the bottom. When done right, you will find that the lens will buckle against the lower folds on the inside of your eyelids and then it should roll itself out so you can easily pick the lens out.
If you try this method and you’re struggling, then I usually find that people aren’t holding onto their lenses for long enough, you have to really drag it down and possibly take two or three drags to allow your lens to follow the curve of your eyeball right down and buckle itself.
The third method is simply to just pinch the lens out. To do this, you have to just make sure to use the mirror, if you look directly at yourself in the mirror and place your finger in your thumb on the colour part of your eye, and if the lens is in the right position, you’ll obviously be touching the lens and not your cornea or your eyeball and then take a firm grip and just pinch the lens together.
You may find this easy to do by creating a bit more room for your fingers, by lowering your chin slightly, observing yourself in the mirror, and then using your fingers to hold your bottom eyelids down so that you’ve got space to use your finger and your thumb to be able to grasp the contact lens firmly.
For each of these three methods, if you continue to struggle then there’s only usually three key areas that I find that people struggle with when it comes to getting their contact lenses out. Once they’ve got one of these three techniques in mind as to how they’re going to approach getting the lenses out. I’ve made a previous video on this before, and if you are struggling, then check that video out because it will cover these three areas that people commonly struggle with and it will apply to this video as well, just to help you make those final corrections to get your lenses out first time every time.
I hope you find that helpful and thank you for reading.
Take care.
